Halotron® I and Halotron® II are innovative products that were commercialized only after extensive research and development programs. These programs included screening of available technology and identification and execution of test programs for chemicals that had never been used, in whole or in combination, as clean agents. Dozens of materials and combinations were considered and discarded prior to the commercialization of the two current products.

Coincident with these efforts, AMPAC expended considerable time and money to apply for and secure patents in multiple jurisdictions. The commercialization of the products, which in the case of Halotron I included a wide UL-listing program across multiple prominent fire-extinguisher manufacturers, was a long and expensive process.
