Product Origins
The first major U.S. distributor for Halotron I was Buckeye Fire Equipment Company (Buckeye), one of the major manufacturers of portable fire extinguishers in the United States. American Pacific assisted Buckeye in completing a rigorous extended fire and hardware test program through Underwriters Laboratories (UL) in 1995, and Buckeye introduced a complete line of UL-listed Halotron I portables in 1996.

American Pacific assisted Amerex Corporation, Badger Fire Protection and Kidde through similar programs in 1997 and 1998. Buckeye led the industry in introducing the first UL-listed Halotron I wheeled units in 1999 following a full-scale fire test program at the American Pacific Southwest Regional Fire Training Center (see below), where UL-compliant fire pans up to 400 ft2 (37.2 m2) are maintained. UL came to the facility to conduct the tests. In 2003, a similar program with Amerex was completed resulting in UL-listing of two each 65 lb (29.5 kg) and 150 lb (68 kg) high-performance Halotron I extinguishers from Buckeye and Amerex respectively.

Halotron maintains production and testing facilities at the production site in southern Utah, including a 10-acre fire testing facility known as the
Southwest Regional Fire Training Center.
